I am going to call it: Luke and Wyatt are going to be huge, if not the next big thing then they are pretty close to the front of the line.
Their show ‘Stacks On’ isn’t at all topical, except for one particuarly hilarious song about the Myki card, but that doesn’t negatively affect the show at all. The duo are masters at finding the hilarious in the mundane, and then writing oddly catchy songs about it. This is one of the few shows at the festival that has a geniune sense of whimsy, Luke and Wyatt seem to enjoy what they do.
Luke and Wyatt’s strength as a duo is one of the things that really makes the show stand out, they have really well defined roles within the duo, and they are great at making the audience feel at ease and like you know them. This is really key to their humour and success, and it is not just the intimate venue, the duo are both likeable and crazy talented.
They could be compared to other musical comics like ‘The Scared Weird Little Guys’ but something about doing that would be amiss. The music isn’t just incidental to their jokes, it plays an important part in the joke working.
Luke and Wyatt are both talented musicians and their songs span various genres, from folk to caberet to hip hop to pop to irish ballad. A few of their songs left me in actual physical pain because of extended hysterical laughter.
‘Stacks On’ also shows off just how talented theatrical performers Luke and Wyatt are with hilariously choreographed dance routines and small bits of physical comedy throughout the whole show. It is almost disarming to see young performers as talented as these two, it is totally unexpected.
Even if you only go to hear about what Barbie thinks about the Bratz dolls having sex with Ken, go and see Luke and Wyatt, because soon you won’t get the opportunity to say you liked them before it was cool.
